SLT Meeting Minutes from Oct. 9, 2021

In attendance:  Kathy Agnew, Elena Andrews, Linda Dollins, Chris Hagen,  Diane Langworthy, Kathy Mendoza, Diane Oldfield, Vicki Rehkopf, Joan Thompson, Mary Williams.

The Zoom meeting began at 11:30 AM with ten minutes of Centering Prayer.

COSD UPDATE: MARY WILLIAMS

COSD is in discernment about the future of their leadership, and we will keep them in prayer.  On October 30, 2021, they will be hosting a retreat at the Mission San Luis Rey from 10 AM - 4 PM with Richard Bonacci: "The Desert in Image, Word, and Contemplation."  CJ Carlo is the event organizer.

PRAYER GROUP FACILITATOR SUPPORT: KATHY A./MARY

Mary thanked Parth Domke for her August 28th Facilitator Zoom meeting.  Parth not only shared materials from the Contemplative Life series on Intention and Attention, but she also taught a process for sending excerpts from the book as a daily devotional to prayer group members. The meeting was recorded and is available on the Be Still blog here. Nichola Riggle asked C.O. about their copyright policy, and we have permission to use this material.

On October 23, 9:30-11:30, Kathy Agnew will host a Facilitator Meeting using a video talk by Gail Fitzpatrick-Hopler on the C.O. Theological Principles which directly relates to the Facilitator Handbook section on principles.

Kathy A. is stepping aside after October, and Mary suggested a team could form to assist with facilitator development.

C.O. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN DENVER

Mary reported that the recordings of this conference are on our website at the “Resources” tab.  There are two YouTube playlists from the conference: The Global Embrace (the main presentations) and 2021 International Conference. She and Diane Langworthy attended some of the talks and thought they were good.  Diane and another contributor will do a short write-up for the Newsletter.

INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP PROGRAM

This was our chapter’s first introductory workshop on Zoom, and Diane O. reported that it was less work for the team, well organized, and very successful.  She also said that Mary reworked the participant handouts as email attachments which included live links. Mary found the C.O. PowerPoint easy to share on Zoom.   40 people registered, about 24 attended, and an average of 7 came to the four Zoom follow-up sessions.  Mary and Parth both presented at the workshop, and Mary led all the follow-up sessions. The follow-up sessions were recorded and emailed to participants. Mary also said she shared the CONSD list of prayer groups with participants and encouraged those not in a group to join one.

THE PRINCE OF PEACE ABBEY OCT. RETREAT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The Abbey is still holding the deposit for the Deepening, and next year’s Fall retreat is planned for October 14-16.

BLESSED ARE THEY THAT MOURN RETREAT WITH ELENA BERTRAN

Elena is working on the retreat and using The Wild Edge of Sorrow, It’s OK that You’re Not Okay, and Richard Rohr’s daily meditations on grief as her source material.  She hopes to incorporate YouTube chants which have a frequency that helps with grief.  She will focus both on our own grief and how to respond to others in grief.  Mary has posted the flyer information to the website under at “Events” tab.

GOOD NEWS FESTIVAL POSTPONED

The Episcopalian festival, which our chapter was partnering with, featured Bishop Michael Curry and was scheduled for December 3-4. It is now rescheduled for December 9-10, 2022.

FR. CARL ARICO ON AGING WITH KATHY MENDOZA

Kathy will be presenting on January 29, 2022,

CHRIS HAGEN PRESENTATION ON THE METAMORPHOSIS OF SPIRITUALITY

Chris described how he is developing his presentation. “Basically, what I have been exploring since the Putting on the Mind of Christ workshop is my sense that the concept of the False Self is a negative barrier to our understanding and experience of being ‘made in the image of God.’  What we call the False Self is a normal phase in the course of our biological and spiritual development toward living ‘the image of God’ in our daily life.” He will present on April 23, 2022.

REV. MICHAEL BATTLE’S “RECONCILIATON AS CHRISTIAN MYSTICISM”

We have purchased this recording from the Shalem Institute which can be used as we wish.  Mary has previewed it and thinks it could be the focus of a retreat or segments as individual presentations. (See the minutes of July 17, 2021 for a more complete description of the recording.)

GOD IS LOVE: THE HEART OF ALL CREATION

Mary purchased these DVDs of recently aired conversations between Fr. Keating and Fr. Carl Arico. They were the focus of a retreat led by Fr. Stephen Coffey at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in July 2021. Mary suggested we might use them in the future and invite Fr. Coffey to lead the retreat.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Linda reported that we have $13,923.74 in our SDCCU account.  We received donations of $75 and had expenditures of $849.95.

COMMUNICATIONS (WEBSITE & NEWSLETTER)

Our WordPress update is complete, and we now have an https website which is protected and backed up.  For $9 Mary had an hour-long guided session with a consultant on the WordPress program which was also recorded for her future use.  On screenshare, Mary showed us the additions and changes to the website which had not been updated in years.  In the future we may want a PayPal option for donations.
