"Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people."
We invite you to a few minutes of silence before we begin our prayer time together.
Take a deep breath and breathe in the breath of God, knowing by faith that God breathes into us the breath of life.
CONTEMPLATIVE / SILENT PRAYER
Our Centering Prayer sit is 20 - 30 minutes sounded by the chime/chant. At the end of the Prayer sit, we will linger in silence a few minutes, then follow by praying together the Our Father.

LECTIO: from Luke 5: 1-11
He got into one of the boats, the
one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. . . .
[H]e said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your
nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we have worked all night long but
have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had
done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. So
they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they
came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw
it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a
sinful man!” For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish
that they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were
partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on
you will be catching people.” When they had brought their boats to shore, they
left everything and followed him.
Second reading & reflection: What word or phrase catches your attention? Share or pass.
Third reading & reflection: How does this word or phrase touch your life? Share or pass.
Fourth and last reading & silent reflection: How is God inviting you to grow? We will reflect in silence for a few moments before we move from Lectio Prayer to the teaching by Father Keating.
Teaching: Yes, attachment is the issue.
Attachment is the energy of greed, attachment not only to our stuff but to our
ideas, our feelings, our views of others, our views of how life should be.
Attachment to our view of ourselves and our view of God. This might be the core
issue in following, in discipleship, in spiritual practice. Our attachments keep
us bound, stuck, imprisoned, unable to follow, to walk the talk. Attachment,
whether to our stuff or our views, keeps us from truly seeing our neighbor in
the ditch or anywhere else for that matter, and it keeps us from knowing the God
who searches for us. J. Carlyle Gill, The Inescapable God, p. 10

We now take some time to share our thoughts and reflections on our own spiritual journey and our prayer practice. Followed by brief prayers of intercession. Share or pass.
