SLT Meeting Minutes from Jan 15, 2022

Present: Linda Dollins, Parth Domke, Chris Hagen, Deborah Lewallen, Rick Martin, Kathy Mendoza, Diane Oldfield, Jan Simpson, Joan Thompson, Susan Wheeler.

The meeting was opened by Linda Dollins with a reading from Psalm 119 and a 10-minute period of centering prayer.

Following the CONSD annual new year’s practice, the team read and reflected upon the chapter’s Vision and Mission Statements and Core Values.
REPORTS:

COSD Update: Karen Downs has trained 3 new volunteers for their leadership team and has now stepped down. Ardy Woodmansee, Christina Romero and CJ Carlo remain on the COSD servant leadership team.

COSD is planning an online chapter event on 2/19 or 3/23 using Chris Hagen’s recorded presentation, “Reflections on the Wisdom and Teachings of Thomas Keating.”

Media Library (Diane Oldfield): The chapter’s media is available. The media list will be posted on the CONSD website. Facilitators can call, text or email Diane for access. The team discussed whom this media should be made available to.

Parth mentioned that she had used The Contemplative Life series in her prayer group.

It was pointed out that there is a great deal of formation material available on YouTube. The team discussed the possibility of shifting the duties of the media librarian to posting available formation material to a dedicated YouTube channel. Rick will explore how easily that material might be posted to a YouTube channel.

Prayer Group Facilitator Support: Kathy Agnew has stepped aside from this role. Linda asked for volunteers to form a Facilitator Support team. Parth volunteered to be part of that team. Linda suggested that we contact all prayer group facilitators to ask for volunteers for this team and noted that we might invite COSD to take part as well.

Parth recommended developing a job description for members of this team.

Financial Report (Linda): The chapter received $900 in donations last month which increased the chapter bank account balance from $13,923 to $14,848.

Communications (Website and Newsletter) (Mary Williams): Mary plans to update the content of pages on the CONSD website. The February CONSD newsletter is forthcoming.

Intro Team (Rick, Diane, Jan): Linda asked if the Intro team could look at the Intro tab on the website and suggest revisions. She also asked if this team could meet and discuss when the next Intro might happen. The team could offer dates for a potential Intro to Mary.

Chris and Parth highlighted the importance of this part of our mission.

Events: Susan has taken 28 registrations for Kathy Mendoza’s morning retreat, “What Next – Smiling Through Our Milestones” on Jan 29, 9:30 – 11:30. This retreat will incorporate Fr Arico’s wisdom and humor in examining how we are coping with the current stage of our lives.

The team discussed ways to make registration user-friendly.

Chris will offer a new PowerPoint presentation, “Becoming the Whole Self: Beyond the False Self/ True Self Dichotomy” on April 23. This presentation will explore Fr Thomas’ teaching: “We are not human beings on a spiritual journey; we are spiritual beings on a human journey.” Chris reminded us that the more human we become, the more loving of each other, the more we allow the Holy Spirit the opportunity to guide us. Chris will include Scripture as guideposts.

The team discussed possibly hosting an online presentation for facilitators in May. Linda and Parth will discuss this further.

It was noted that written comments from Elena Andrews’ retreat on grieving are available on the CONSD website.

Hospitality (Joan): Joan reflected that there is no need for physical hospitality in the chapter at present.

Calendar:

Kathy Mendoza’s Retreat: 1/29
United in Prayer Day (more info coming on this): 3/5
Next CONSD SLT meeting: 4/9
Chris’ Program: 4/23
Possible Prince of Peace Retreat: 10/14 – 10/16

Respectfully submitted,

Deborah Lewallen
