July 2022 Facilitator Meeting
For our prayer group facilitator Zoom gathering of July 16, 2022, the focus was on technical tips and faith sharing. The recording of this meeting is available in two YouTube videos (see below). Part 1 is a 20-minute overview of how to use the Resources tab in this blog, with information on the wealth of materials that are available to us through communications that CO, Ltd, sends out -- particularly the videos that continue to be added to CO's YouTube channel and suggestions that are shared in the quarterly Voice E-Bulletin for Volunteers. Part 2 includes a training video with Nestor de Armas* offering pointers on faith sharing in prayer groups, followed by our group discussion.

SLT Minutes from April 9, 2022
Present:
Mary Williams, Elena Andrews, Linda Dollins, Parth Domke, Chris Hagen,
Diane Langworthy, Rick Martin, Kathy Mendoza, Diane Oldfield, Vicki Rehkopf,
Nichola Riggle, Jan Simpson, Joan Thompson, Susan Wheeler.
The meeting
was opened at 9:32 AM by Mary Williams with a reading from Psalm 107 and a
10-minute period of Centering Prayer.
Reports:
COSD
Update: Ardy Woodmansee and Karen Downs have stepped
down from COSD’s servant leadership team.
However, Karen still occasionally leads small introductory
workshops. Janet Hagen serves as
treasurer, Cristina Romero leads Spanish-speaking outreach, C.J. Carlo works on
half-day retreats and days of prayer, and Kathy DiFede helps with retreat
planning and leading.
Media
Librarian: Diane Oldfield announced a new media project
organized by Rick Martin which would transfer our existing DVD’s and CD’s to a
CONSD-designated YouTube site. Rick
explained that he will collect the material from Diane and, over the next few
months, rip the DVD’s and CD’s and then post them on our website. Diane has emailed facilitators and the SLT to
return any borrowed media and has had a good response.
Facilitator
Enrichment Team: Mary reported that she, Parth Domke, Nichola
Riggle, and Kathy Agnew will work together to develop resources and events
designed to support our facilitators.
Events might include facilitator gatherings to share ideas and materials
and more formal presentations.
Financial
report: The chapter received $5,075.00 in donations
last month, increasing our balance from $14,848 to $19,798.74. With the additional $5,000, Linda suggested
that we honor any request for scholarships without restrictions. A discussion ensued, and Linda then proposed
we honor requests without restrictions for 6 months and observe what
happens. Discussion continued, and Linda
proposed forming a group to discuss scholarship issues. Mary, Joan, Kathy M., Susan, and Linda will be in the
group.
Communications: Mary said the work
on revising the CONSD website is moving slowly because of the website’s
limitations mentioning fonts as one problem.
Mary will continue the work.
Mary also requested
help with the next Newsletter. Diane
Langworthy volunteered to write an article about Chris’s “Becoming the Whole
Self.” Diane also said she would find
someone to write an article about David Frenette’s Zoom presentation in May. Mary
will write the article on United in Prayer Day.
Susan commented on how inspiring the Ukrainian prayer group was, and
Mary said she would include any submitted responses about U in P Day in her
article.
Diane L. mentioned that her prayer group at Mary Magdalene Apostle is no longer following the hybrid model. They are currently meeting Zoom-only because of the current surge in Covid (omicron) and because it is difficult to sustain a prayerful atmosphere with the technical complexities of the hybrid model. Occasionally, the group meets in person for a day retreat.
Events: Chris said his presentation for April 23 is complete. He would like the event recorded. Susan said 78 have registered and more are expected with the last flyer send. Susan is experiencing difficulties with Gmail to communicate with registrants. Diane L. suggested Susan use Eventbrite. Parth has some information about Eventbrite and might be able to help. Parth, Diane L., and Susan may meet to discuss improvements to registration/communication.
Presenter Enrichment Day: C.O. Ltd. is offering this support on April 30 to presenters. Mary will send out a reminder.
Introductory Workshops: The next workshop is
scheduled for June 4 on Zoom, and Mary will host it. The team needs to meet,
and Jan will be back after April 23.
Mary has transferred printed hardcopies of handouts and other folder
materials to Word documents that can be sent to participants via email.
Patti Smith will be
a presenter on June 4, but more presenters are needed. Diane L. said she would present if she had
help developing new slides and learning the technology involved. Parth
suggested Diane L. watch the recorded C.O. Intro Workshops to see how they are
done. Mary said online presenter
training / refreshers are available through C.O.
Mary said the Intro workshop also needs one or more follow-up facilitators for the 4-6 weeks of continuing sessions. Rick asked what training would be needed. Mary explained the 90-minute format for the follow-ups: a period of Centering Prayer, showing a video for formation, facilitating faith sharing and discussion. Training is not required, but familiarity with the material is essential. Jan is willing to serve as a follow-up facilitator.
Fr. Vincent Pizzuto: Fr. Vincent is scheduled for November 12. Nichola Riggle of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Del Mar has secured their sanctuary, which has excellent video equipment, for the event. Nichola will also schedule the Parish Hall for refreshments. She said that the L’Auberge Hotel across the street from the church might be a place to host Fr. Vincent. Mary will ask Fr. Vincent if he would be able to celebrate Mass at St. Peter’s on that evening of his presentation. Fr. Vincent is also willing to default to a Zoom gathering if need be due to Covid surges. Thank you to Nichola for her vision and efforts to make this event possible.
Elena Bertran Retreat: Elena had to leave the meeting early, but Mary has asked her about presenting either in September or December since Fr. Vincent is scheduled for November when Elena, traditionally, hosts her retreats. September will probably not work as Elena may be traveling then. Mary and Elena will discuss other possibilities.
Calendar: Chris Hagen, “Becoming the Whole Self” April 23, Introductory Workshop
June 4, Presenter Enrichment Day April 30, Prince of Peace Retreat October 14-16,
Fr. Vincent Pizzuto November 12.
Diane Langworthy said that Oliva Espin is planning a zoom retreat/workshop for Mary Magdalene Apostle Catholic Community on May 21. She is considering repeating her retreat on Teresa of Avila or creating a new retreat on Thea Bowman who is being considered for canonization. Mary, Linda, Kathy, and others recommended Thea Bowman. Diane L. said Thea Bowman’s work relates to that of CAC’s Barbara Holmes’ contributions.
Closing: Mary closed the meeting at 11:20 AM with the Casa del Sol Prayer of Jesus.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Dollins and Mary Williams
